Suggan Buggan River
The Suggan Buggan River is located in the Australian Alps. It rises in a wilderness area near the New South Wales / Victorian border before flowing through the locale of Suggan Buggan in the Shire of East Gippsland and flows on to meet the Snowy River in Victoria. Suggan Buggan lies on the edge of the Snowy Mountains. This is wild lonely country which can be bitterly cold in winter. It seems that the town's name came from the Aboriginal term bukkan bukkan, referring to bags made from grass.
