The village is just off the South Gippsland Highway near its intersection with the Bass Highway, on the Lang Lang River and is the centre of the largest asparagus growing region in the southern hemisphere, and also caters to beef and dairy farming.

Tooradin was a railway station on the South Gippsland line in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia, the station operated until the closure of the line between Cranbourne Station and Leongatha Station in July 1993 (passenger traffic) although the railway continued to carry freight traffic to Koala Siding near Lang Lang until January 1998.

Catani railway station
Catani was a railway station on the Strzelecki line in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. The station was opened on 29 June 1922, and closed on 15 April 1950 along with Yannathan station, when the line was truncated to Bayles station leaving it the only remaining station on the Strzelecki line until it too was closed on 4 February 1959.
Yannathan railway station
Yannathan was a railway station on the Strzelecki line in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. The station was opened on 29 June 1922. Yannthan was the terminus station on the Strezlecki line from 7 August 1941 following flooding of the Lang Lang River, resulting in damages to one of the four trestle bridges over the river. Yannathan was closed on 15 April 1950 when the line was truncated up to Bayles Station.
Bayles railway station
Bayles was a railway station on the Strzelecki line in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. The station was opened on 29 June 1922. Bayles was the final station to remain open the entire life of the Strzelecki line, It was the terminus of the line from 15 April 1950 when the line was truncated from Yannathan. The short section of track was kept open mostly to serve the local butter factory.

At the 2011 Census, Cardinia had a population of 449. Cardinia is located between Pakenham and Tooradin on the south-eastern fringe of Melbourne. The Post Office opened on 1 September 1881, was known as Cardinia Creek until 1912, and closed in 1970.

Koo Wee Rup
Koo Wee Rup /ˌkuː ˌwiː ˈrʌp/ is a town in Victoria, Australia, 63 km south-east from Melbourne's central business district. Its Local Government Area is the Shire of Cardinia. At the 2011 Census, Koo Wee Rup had a population of 3,079. Prior to December 1994 the town was part of the Shire of Cranbourne. Built on former marshland now converted to market gardens, the town has a population of about 2,900. The post office opened on 7 January 1891.
Koo-Wee-Rup Swamp
The Koo-Wee-Rup Swamp was a large freshwater swamp located to the south east of Melbourne, Victoria. It was drained an area of West Gippsland, with several waterways including Cardinia Creek and the Bunyip River. The Koo-Wee-Rup swamp originally covered more than 40 000 hectares, of dense swamp paperbark (Melaleuca ericifolia), some open grasslands, reed beds (Phragmites australis) and bullrushes (Typha spp).
