Macclesfield is a small town on the upper reaches of the River Angas in the Adelaide Hills region of South Australia. At the 2006 census, Macclesfield had a population of 832. Macclesfield is in the District Council of Mount Barker local government area, the state electorate of Heysen and the federal Division of Mayo.
Echunga, South Australia
Echunga is a small town in the Adelaide Hills located 34 km south-east of Adelaide in South Australia. The area was initially settled in 1839, with the town laid out in 1849. Gold was discovered in 1852 and Echunga became the first proclaimed goldfield in South Australia. This led to a gold rush, however it did not last long with the diggings exhausted and all but abandoned within a year. Subsequent discoveries in 1853 and 1854 led to smaller and equally short-lived rushes.
Flaxley, South Australia
Flaxley is a small settlement in the Adelaide Hills located 39 km south-east of Adelaide in South Australia. It is situated in-between the larger towns of Echunga, Macclesfield and Meadows. It is based near the property "Battunga" meaning "rolling hills" in Aboriginal vocabulary. The property was purchased by English settler Robert Davenport in 1843.
