Picton Road is a New South Wales highway linking Picton and Wollongong. It provides an important link between the Hume and Southern freeways. From Picton, the highway runs in the southeastern direction, crosses the Hume Highway and continues over grass-forested ranges east of Wilton (passing through Sydney Water Catchment areas) until it meets Mount Ousley Road which leads to Wollongong or Helensburgh.

The station has two platforms that serve the diesel railcars that use the line. Platform 2 is on an island platform which did have a dock platform for the Picton - Mitagong loop line services. Until 2011 a freight loop ran behind the platform.

Wollondilly Shire is a local government area on the south-western edge of Sydney, being part of the Macarthur region, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Wollondilly Shire is named after the Wollondilly River. The area is traversed by the Hume Highway and the Southern Highlands railway line. Wollondilly Shire contains several small towns and villages broken up by farms and sandstone gorges. To its west is wilderness and includes the Nattai Wilderness and the Burragorang Valley.

Opened on 7 October 1897, Victoria Bridge is a timber trestle bridge employing Allan trusses - it was designed by Percy Allan and built by C.J. Ford of Sydney. It features the tallest trestles in New South Wales, and is one of the oldest surviving bridges of its type. It is named after Queen Victoria, and is classified by the National Trust.

The Parish of Wilton is a parish of the County of Camden in New South Wales, Australia. It is located in the area around where Picton Road crosses the Hume Highway, and the area around nearby Wilton. It is bounded by the Cataract River in the east, the Nepean River in the west and north, and the Cordeaux River in the south-west. Almost the entire boundary of the parish uses rivers, except for a small area in the south-east. The parish extends as far south as Cordeaux dam.
