City of Cessnock
City of Cessnock is a local government area in the Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia. The area under administration is located to the west of Newcastle. The largest population centre and council seat is the city of Cessnock. The Mayor of the City of Cessnock Council is Cr. Bob Pynsent, a member of the Country Labor Party.

Cessnock is a city in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia, about 52 km by road west of Newcastle. It is the administrative centre of the Cessnock City Council LGA and was named after an 1826 grant of land called Cessnock Estate, which was owned by John Campbell. The local area once known as "The Coalfields" is now the gateway city to the vineyards of the Hunter Valley, which includes Pokolbin, Mount View, Broke, Rothbury, and Branxton.

Lochinvar railway station
Lochinvar is a railway station on the Main North Line of the Australian state of New South Wales. CityRail operates diesel self-propelled railcars through Lochinvar as part of its Hunter line regional service from Newcastle. It is located approximately 2 km from the town of the same name. Historically, the next outbound station is Allandale, however that station is closed until further notice.

Allandale is a former railway station in the Maitland local government area. It is part of CityRail's outer suburban network, on the Main North Line branch of the Hunter Line. It was temporarily closed in 2002 due to the nearby bridge construction, and permanently closed on 9 September 2005, after railway works by the Australian Rail Track Corporation.

The combined population of Kurri Kurri and the adjoining suburbs of Stanford Merthyr, Pelaw Main and Weston was 10,428. Kurri Kurri's name comes from the local Awabakal language where it has a meaning similar to "the beginning" or "the first".

Rothbury, New South Wales
Rothbury is a small town located in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia. It is 10 km from Cessnock. At the 2006 census, Rothbury had a population of 309 people. The town became notorious for the Rothbury Riot when police shot into a crowd of miners killing Norman Brown and injuring many more, during a lockout of miners at the local colliery on 16 December 1929. A monument in honour of Norman Brown is located at North Rothbury.

Farley railway station
Farley was a closed station on the Main North railway line in New South Wales. It opened in 1860 initially as Wollombi Road, and closed to passenger services in 1975. It was a side platform with a substantial station building which lay disused until eventual demolition. Only the platform face remains. Save our Rails, a Newcastle rail lobby group, has suggested opening a new railway station in the Farley area to improve rail access to Newcastle.
