At the 2006 census, Hawkesbury Heights had a population of 426 people. To the south is Yellow Rock. The only road link to the suburb is Hawkesbury Road, which becomes Springwood Road to the east.

Sydney International Regatta Centre
The Sydney International Regatta Centre, located in Penrith, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, is a rowing and canoe sprint venue built for the 2000 Summer Olympics. It is now a popular sporting venue, with the Head of the River Regatta held annually here. Defqon.1 Festival is also held here; as a newly established and reasonably popular hard dance music event Defqon.1 Festival requires a large venue which is somewhat removed from residences, making the Regatta Centre an ideal location.
Yellomundee Regional Park
Yellomundee Regional Park is situated on the eastern escarpment of the Blue Mountains, part of the Great Escarpment formed by the orogeny that created the Great Dividing Range, north-west of Penrith. It stretches 8.6 kilometres in a north-south direction from Yarramundi to Mount Riverview and Emu Heights. It contains a mountain bike and hiking track, and several lookouts. It is west of the Nepean River, overlooking and for a good length touching it.
Castlereagh Aerodrome
Castlereagh Aerodrome was a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) emergency landing ground and dispersal ground during World War II at Castlereagh, New South Wales, Australia. The runway was 5,000 ft long x 150 ft wide . The airfield was to become home to No. 94 Squadron's Mosquito aircraft and had been upgraded by No. 9 Airfield Construction Squadron, however the aircraft did not arrive before No. 94 Squadron was relocated to RAAF Base Richmond and disbanded.

Originally an airstrip far away from residential development, as the urban sprawl came closer the land became more valuable as housing. Drag racers in Sydney then moved their activities to the 1000 foot strip at Oran Park Raceway.
Blue Gum Swamp
The Blue Gum Swamp is situated at Winmalee in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, Australia. Sometimes it is called the Blue Gum Forest, however, this may cause confusion with the more famous Blue Gum Forest further west in the Grose Valley. In the distant past, the valley floor was blocked. This caused a residual alluvial deposit, which resulted in relatively deep and fertile soils. The tall Mountain Blue Gums in the gully may reach 50 metres in height.
