Shirak Airport
Shirak International Airport is an international airport serving Gyumri and the province of Shirak, Armenia. It is located about 5 km from the center of Gyumri. The airport was inaugurated in 1961, and is the second largest airport in the country, after Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport. The airport has scheduled flights to Moscow, Rostov-on-Don and Sochi.
Kars–Gyumri–Tbilisi railway
The Kars–Gyumri–Tbilisi railway line is a railway line that runs from the city of Kars in Turkey to the Armenian city of Gyumri, then from there on to Tbilisi, Georgia. Originally completed in 1899, the railway was highly important during the Soviet era, both as the only rail link between Turkey and the USSR (Kars-Gyumri), and one of the two main railway connections between Armenia and other Soviet Republics (Gymri-Tbilisi).

The town was renamed in 1935 in honor of Bolshevik leader Bagrat Gharibjanian, killed in 1920.
