Attack on Mers-el-Kébir
The Attack on Mers-el-Kébir, part of Operation Catapult and also known as the Battle of Mers-el-Kébir, was a British Navy bombardment of the French Navy at Mers-el-Kébir on the coast of what was then French Algeria on 3 July 1940. A British naval task force attacked the French fleet, which was at anchor and not expecting an assault from Britain, France's former ally. The attack resulted in the deaths of 1,297 French servicemen, the sinking of a battleship and the damaging of five other ships.

Once completed in 2014, it will be used mostly for football matches and will host the home matches of MC Oran. The stadium will have a capacity of 40,000 people. It replaces their current stadium Ahmed Zabana Stadium. On December 5, 2011, the minister of Youth and Sports, El Hachemi Djiar, announced that the stadium would be completed before the end of 2012.
Great Synagogue (Oran)
The Great Synagogue of Oran, Algeria, was built and consecrated in 1880 at the initiative of Simon Kanoui, but its inauguration took place only in 1918. Also known as Temple Israelite, it is located on the former Boulevard Joffre, currently Boulevard Maata Mohamed El Habib. It was one of the largest and most superb synagogues in North Africa.
HMS Walney (Y04)
HMS Walney (Y04), launched in 1930 as USCGC Sebago, was a Banff class sloop. She was transferred to the Royal Navy in 1941 and lost in 1942 in Operation Reservist, an attack on Oran that formed part of Operation Torch. Her captain, Frederick Thornton Peters, received the Victoria Cross for gallantry during this operation.

Sainte-Barbe du Tlélat Airfield was a World War II military airfield in Algeria near the city of Oued Tlelat. It was the home of the 27th Fighter Group from 26 December 1942 until mid-January 1943, which flew A-20 Havoc light bombers.

Cathédrale du Sacré-Cœur d'Oran
Cathédrale du Sacré-Cœur d'Oran is a cathedral located on the Place de la Kahina, on Boulevard Hammou-boutlelis, in Oran, Algeria. It was built between 1904 to 1913 by Albert Ballu, the architect of the Government of Algeria, and by the company of Auguste and Gustave Perret. The church was consecrated on 30 April 1930, was transformed into a regional library in 1984, then a public library in 1996.
