Lejay, Afghanistan
Lejay, Afghanistan is a small village where a Taliban commander named Kabir (Sub-Cdr of Mullah Wahid - Objective), executed an ambush on a U.S. Special Forces Reconnaissance element, consisting of seven Green Beret detachments (A-Teams) on February 10, 2003. The killzone for the ambush site was 2km wide by 3km long. The subsequent battle, initiated by the ambush, lasted for 43 hours.
2003 Lejay firefight
A skirmish occurred on the morning of February 10, 2003 outside of Lejay, a small village in the northern, mountainous part of Helmand Province, Afghanistan. The village is in the Baghran valley, and one of the few highways in Afghanistan passes through it. American intelligence analysts assert that the village is the focus of the Opium Trade. Vehicles approaching the village report being fired on.
